And you'll be surprised to know I still didn't fix the touchpad problem...

I suppose I should look into getting a replacement touchpad and see if that fixes it, but I think I'd like a new laptop. Maybe one with that new fangled USB 2 I keep hearing about.
Too bad shiny, new laptops are expensive. I wonder if I can ask the denizens of the net to donate.
I could work from example.

Admittedly, I don't actually need a new laptop. What with only really using it for Word, surfing the net, and hacking into the NSA in order to bring a country to it's knees - and I'm only doing that so I can hang with Timothy Olyphant (or Bruce Willis, you know, whatever).

Still, it can't hurt to try.]]>

Yes, obviously... this, comes this little number.

The answer is 506.
Obviously.

Feeling stupid? The answer is completely logical -
ITV gave the answer to this late-night maths quiz problem as 506, although simple addition produces the answer 438. It explained that the answer could be reached by breaking up the figures in the list to find all the references to pence. Thus:

- Two pounds is 200p plus 2p (two p) and 1p (p at the beginning of pounds which makes 203p

- 25p: 25p plus 5p and 1p (the p symbol = 31p Pounds 1.47 = 147p

- 16p: 16p plus 6p and 1p (p again = 23p

- Fifty pence: 50p plus 50p (fifty p, a shortening of pence), 1p (reference to pence) and 1p (p only = 102p

- Adding 203p, 31p, 147p, 23p and 102p gives a total of 506p

Always nice to know my A-level maths is no use whatsoever.]]>

What He Said...
Hot Fuzz - What happens when Midsomer Murders' Inspector Barnaby has had quite enough of these mofo murders on his mofo patch.

Oh. Did you want more?

The story so far...
Top cop Nicholas Angel is tranferred from the Met to the sleepy town of Sandford. Where the murder rate is low, but the accident rate is suspiciously high.

Hot Fuzz was simply brilliant. The best comedy I've seen in a while, and the first one in a long, long time where I've heard the whole audience laugh consistantly throughout.

There are some great lines, and moments, from a wonderful cast of characters populating Sandford. Simon Pegg's straight man role leaves Nick Frost's puppy-like Danny Butterman to grab most (if not all) of the laugh-out-loud moments in the pairing. Pegg's performance itself is pretty on the money, you feel for the poor guy driven slightly insane by the wrongness of the place. As for the action, it may not be as exciting as most action movies, but it's a comedy first. Still, I'm sure all the older actors hit the third act on the script, and rang their agents immediately. I don't think they're asked to have this much fun on a regular basis.

The big question is, is it as good as Shaun of the Dead? Well, yes and no. If you've seen Shaun you'll know to expect the British variant of the Hollywood movie, so it loses that element of surprise. It also doesn't have the emotional depth of Shaun, but Hot Fuzz makes up for this as a much purer comic beast.
I think the nature of action movies is drives this loss of emotion. Not that Hot Fuzz is a spoof - think as Scream was to horror, but funnier - or emotion free - action films are normally buddy movies after all.
There's also a bit in Hot Fuzz which probably out-grosses anything from Shaun. Given what they hadn't shown up to that point, I wasn't expecting them to put it on film.
And, yes, it was still funny.

Oh, and karmic linking to my recent post(s); Edward Woodward is in it.
2007 is the year of Edward Woodward, so go watch Hot Fuzz. ]]>

Feeling the 80s "No, I'm not going for the 80's look. This is retro-January 2007."

Being an 80's child, I'm going through a wonderful (sort of) period of squeeling, cultural flashbacking. Top January 80's moments so far;
Indy IV is finally a go.
"The Face" being on Celebrity Big Brother - BA Baracus in CBB would be so cool. Still, I always liked Howling Mad Murdoch the best.
And I've just found out they're planning on making a film of The Equalizer. I know they've made a Miami Vice movie, and some others I can't think of right now, but I actually watched The Equalizer!*

I can't wait for the day they decide make a film based on Manimal.

*I thought Edward Woodward was dead, but he isn't. So Hooray!

Update: Hey look! Edward Woodward is in the new TV drama Five Days.]]>

What is the point of spam which doesn't attempt to take your money, soul, or computer's life?

Is it more depressing that the computer games industry thinks the way to get more women/girls playing games is by selling pink games consoles, or that it actually works?]]>

A Mars A Day... For your chance to win £5000, just answer this simple question:
What colour is the fruit, Orange?
a) Orange
b) Blue
c) Why have you looked further than answer a?
Ring the £5/min competition line already!

I'm endlessly surprised people enter these "competitions". The worst one of these things I saw was; ring up and if you get the question right (haha) you get a chance to be picked to get into the draw for the for the chance to win £5000.
Yeah, read it again. It really messes with your head.

Now, there was originally a point to me posting. It was going to be about life and work, and a stream of conciousness blah about... something. If I actually remembered to post a few days ago when I had finished the big project, and was seriously overtired, you would have probably got quite a nutty post. Sleep, eh? What can you do.
So, I'm not dead, nor miserably forgotten I made myself a blog, just working hours that are far, far too long. 12-14 hours long. Long hours and Media. Not so expected, I expect. "Surely", you are all saying, "it should be long drinking hours and Media".
Well... yeah... that as well.
But, hand on heart, not for a fair few weeks. Honest Bob.
Was it worth it? Honestly, I don't know. When you stare at something for too long you always see the flaws, and it will drive you crazy. That's why you stay 6 hours longer than you should do. But we'll see.
I'll either be bouncing up and down when I see it on air, or sitting there thinking "God, that bit's really crap."

Of course, the big negative is that I haven't got anything done in the last month or so except eat, sleep, and work. (Sorry website, and loyal readers)
The positive is that I haven't spent much money. So, yay me for once.]]>
